2016 was a pretty big year in tech. We’ve seen a sudden emergence of new competitors and start-ups to the tech market. New and old social media platforms have adapted to new messaging techniques. No one foresaw the popularity of Facebook live-streaming, or virtual reality games like Pokemon Go. Needless to say, we’re sitting on the cusp of even more advanced technologies in the coming months. We at TCC can’t wait to see what’s coming in 2017!
Here are few tech advancements we’re looking forward to in the coming year:
Smart Home Tech
The Amazon Echo and Google Home devices debuted this year to rave reviews. Their voice-activated command system allows you to play music, order products, set reminders, and more – all within the comfort of your own home. Owning the Echo (and similar devices) is like your own personal butler!
Additionally, there are plenty of tech accessories releasing in the coming months to offer household connectivity. Companies like Nest and Ring are just a few companies that are helping us protect and connect the things that matter most to you. Nest provides remote-controlled thermostats and cameras, while Ring is a home security system that monitors activity around the house and at your doorstep. Keep an eye out for a major emergence from both of these companies this next year.
Every year, you inevitably hear grumblings about the next great thing in mobile phones. Some of the biggest cell phone sales tactics include a bigger phone screen, waterproof devices. And … in 2016, we were introduced to the first truly customizable phone, the Moto Z. In 2017, there’s one company that’s trying to stay ahead of the curve … literally.
According to Jungah Lee at Bloomberg, Samsung is rumored to release two phones with bendable screens in early 2017. You read that correctly, “bendable”.The style of these phones has been rumored for years. However, Lee stated we’ll finally got a look at a prototype of the mystical bendable phone at the 2017 Lenovo Tech World.
Samsung will also unveil the next Galaxy series smartphone, The Galaxy S8. This Android is rumored to introduce Samsung’s version of a digital assistant, who they’ve preliminarily named “Bixby. We look forward to seeing how Samsung makes a successful year out of 2017.
More AR and VR
AR and VR made huge strides in the video game and home entertainment industry in 2016. PlayStation and Oculus released PlayStationVR and Oculus Rift, respectively. Samsung and Google introduced VR headsets to pair with their own gaming consoles, as well.
At Lenovo Tech World in June 2016, Lenovo introduced the Phab 2 Pro, the world first phone powered by Google’s Tango software. Tango software specifically manages AR gaming and utilities. Augmented reality meshes a completely virtual world with real world components, which makes for a more immersive experience.
In a bid to stay in sync with the newest technology, Social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube have adopted 360-degree video capabilities. This kind of video increases their compatibility with AR and VR devices. This means people playing games and videos with AR/VR devices will also be likely to connect to Facebook or YouTube.
The world of AR and VR technology is growing and paving the way to more interactive entertainment. We’re excited about the endless possibilities with VR technology.
